The Urinary System
The urinary system is a group of organs that play a key role in eliminating waste and toxins from the body, mainly through the production and evacuation of urine.
It also helps regulate hydration, blood pressure and the body's acid-base balance.
In women, it is particularly sensitive to our hormonal environment and to fluctuations in our intimate microbiota.
Several factors can influence the health of the urinary system:
Insufficient hydration: drinking too little water slows down the natural cleansing of the urinary system. Good hydration promotes more dilute urine and regular elimination.
Excessive consumption of sugars: a diet rich in simple sugars can unbalance our microbiota and weaken our natural defenses.
Unsuitable intimate hygiene: using aggressive or overly-scented products, or making inappropriate hygiene gestures, can upset the natural balance of our intimate flora. So get rid of products that smell too good to be our friends.
Intimate dryness: this is common during pre-menopause or menopause, and can weaken our mucous membranes.
Stress and fatigue: like many of our body's systems, the urinary system can be affected by chronic stress or immune deficiency.
A few good practices to follow
At least once in our lives, we've all experienced an excruciating episode of urinary discomfort.
To do everything in our power to avoid another episode, here are a few tips:
Drink between 1.5 and 2 liters of water a day, depending on your physical activity and the season.
Eat a diet rich in fibre, vegetables, red fruit and anti-inflammatory foods.
Avoid tight-fitting clothes and synthetic undergarments.
Adopt gentle intimate hygiene, using products with the right pH.
Go to the bathroom regularly without holding back (even if you're really busy at the time).
Interesting ingredients for urinary comfort
Well, if you still experience discomfort (after all, we're all women, not robots), here are a few useful plants:
Cranberry: rich in proanthocyanidins (don't look it up, it's unpronounceable ...) and helps reduce the adhesion of certain bacteria to bladder walls.
D-Mannose: a natural sugar not metabolized by the body, which can be eliminated by the urinary tract, helping to flush out certain bacteria.
Nettle: known to support the body's elimination functions.
Heather: supports the urinary system and helps maintain comfort.
At this stage, we've all understood: adopting a holistic approach by supporting hydration, microbiota and immunity will enable us to naturally strengthen our urinary system and preserve our good health.
